Bifocal Contact Lenses
Bifocal contact lenses work just like bifocal eyeglasses, and contain two different optical powers on the lens - one to correct distance vision and the other for near vision. Some bifocal contacts have two sharply-delineated powers, while others work like "progressive" eyeglasses. Bifocal contact lenses come in the following varieties:
Aspheric bifocal contact lens - designed where both the near distance and far distance powers are both located near the cetner of the contact lens.
Concentric bifocal contact lens - designed where the near distance power is in the center of the contact lens and the far distance power is around the outside of the lens.
Translating bifocal contact lens - designed where near distance is on the bottom half of the contact lens while the far distance power is on the top half of the lens. The bottom edge of the contact lens is either flat or slightly weighted to prevent the lens from rotating.
